The biggest hat on the West Australian Alt-Country scene right now belongs to Ralway Bell. That’s not a metaphor, it’s a fact. The band released their debut album ‘Dear Friends’ in October 2017 which was launched nationally with a fourteen date tour across Victoria, ACT, NSW and WA. The tour and new release saw the five-piece act forge a solid reputation as a favourite of the genre on both sides of the Nullarbor.
The new album includes their 2017 WAM Song of The Year (Country) track ‘Caught In The Crossfire’ which was accompanied with a film clip directed by James Bogle (Whiteley) and cinematographer Michael McDermott (Hounds Of Love).
This Alt-Country outfit channel Indi and Blues Rock influences through their whisky-soaked tales of love and despair. Rich guitar tones and sweet pedal steel licks colour their sturdy denim rhythms, which have worn the stages of bars and festivals all over Australia including Nannup Music Festival, Blues At Bridgetown, Boyup Brook Country Music Festival, Akoostik, RTRFM Winter Music Festival, Port City Folk Festival and WAMFest.
As winners of the and 2016 Country Group of the Year (WA Country Music Awards) along with nominations for Best Country Group in 2015, 2016 & 2017 for the WAM Awards, Ralway Bell certainly aren’t short of feathers for their oversized hats!
The album ‘Dear Friends’ is available to stream on Spotify or for purchase through Bandcamp, iTunes and physically ‘in person’ at all shows.
